I guess I should comment: American Chopper build off

Yes i watched the new build off. I was not expecting much, and it unfolded exactly as planned. In case you didn’t watch, it’s a 3 way buildoff  against the OCC dad, the son and Jesse James- apparently the 3 “best builders in the world”!

In my opinion Jesse James is a fantastic builder, has a great sense of style, and deserves all the credit he can get. He has a true love of motorcycles and it shows. The OCC boys are obviously morons that have never ridden more that a mile, don’t love motorcycles, and sue members of their own family. I hate their guts because they stand as pop culture icons representing everything I hate about human beings. Greed, bad taste, no self-respect, and inflated egos.

The show was voted on by the public, and unfortunately when you get the general public involved with anything that is meant to be a counter-culture, it goes horribly wrong. This was the case, and the stay at home moms and x box players of the world voted this man the “best builder”….

I know it is shooting fish in a barrel here, but for those who don’t know motorcycles and may be reading this, let me tell you what I see. That is Paul jr there sitting on a bike that he “made”. Well he didn’t make the frame, the wheels, the engine, the fork, or the swingarm. His “team” built the tank, but it is just a cover that looks like a tank. The real tank is a box under the trans that holds less than 1 gallon. It has a metal seat that is flat as a piece of plywood, and to top it all off- it is horribly, horribly ugly. I don’t care what you are into. You would look like a complete douchbag riding this thing in the best case scenario. I would rather ride one of those can-am scooter things than this.

Here is what I perceive to be the big picture. TV producers want ratings. A show about craftsmanship will never entertain enough people to get these ratings. They need the d word, drama. These OCC guys have provided that in abundance, and now they are where they are, “the best”.

I hope that in my lifetime I can see the American people turn back to pride and craftsmanship; what made America great in the first place. Yesterday will remind me of how far we have fallen and how much work it will take to get back. It may be too late, but I (and all craftsmen) will spend the rest of our lives doing our best to undo this.

PS: If anyone ever, ever, mentions OCC as a comparison to my shop (or any of my friends shops) you will be very sorry.

Hey Maybe im not the norm but im a little insulted! I’m a stay at home mom and can tell the difference between a real bike and the crap that spews from that family! Don’t blame us for the stupid decision of the show – blame the idiot beer fueled lamebrains who voted.

Could not agree more. The craftsmanship that should go into a handmade bike is non existent with Paul Jr. Having other people doing majority of the work & using pre-fabbed material is a bunch of b.s. Being the son of a fabricator, wearing a backwards hat, & designing the occ logo does NOT make you a good bike builder. I bet Paul Jr doesnt even know how to lace a spoke wheel or use a DVOM. freakin d-bag.

I’m in school for welding and mechanics; it’s unreal the amount of people in the program who care only about what size paycheck they will get after graduation, and not about the craft & skills they are learning. Craftsmanship/ hand fabrication are becoming lost skills; being replaced by machines/robots able to crank out piece after piece all just to make more money. A 3.5 hour welding/mechanical lab is looked at as torture to most students because it will take them away from texting or facebook.

I guess these days you’re looked at as being successful or a good person if you’ve got a big tv, wear 100$ jeans, or drive a new car. F that.

Yep… Just as is suspected too. All those lonely fat Farmville playing welfare moms voted for the pretty boy… and against Jesse the guy who cheated on sweet little miss Hollywood. That is EXACTLY what the producers wanted to happen. And, yes that bike is something Chaz Bono would ride, if she could get her rolley-poly fat ass up on it.

I think the less said about all of this the better and I agree with everything you said. Loved Jesse’s bike, as you already said awesome craftsman with a great sense of style. Jnr, WTF someone slap that guy.

  • Brent

    Well said..
Pride In Craft..where has that gone??

  • trusty

you guys think the son is bad? did you see the complete fucking abortion the dad built? WTFMATIC!

Its sad but true that a show about craftsmanship and pride in what you do would have a hard time making it on Tv. I wish it weren’t so. I discovered a series on you tube called “metal church”. Jesse goes through how to build a gas tank from scratch. Wish there was more of that on. I can’t count how many times I have watched that and spcl79′ videos then went out in the garage and screwed something up…lol.

Couldn’t agre more Lock! I was raised on the principals of Pride, Precision, Craftsmanship by my Pops and Grandad. It’s horrible to witness such atrocities. My wife(stay @ home Mom) as well as our 4 children KNOW the difference between the pre packaged, disposable, pop BS and true craftsmanship and SOUL. Thanks for commenting.

Let me remind you that 2 out of 3 invited experts voted for PJD bike as well – no one cares about your feelings, envy or personal problems. If you need a bike to ride, go to a local bike shop, there are thousands of them, built to ride, unlike JJ’s bike where you most likely need a good surgery on your neck and arms pretty soon.
The chopper build off is all about presenting what you can actually create and what you are capable of. And for those of you, who didn’t get that it always comes to inner and outer “architecture” of your creation, you should have spoken with Steve Jobs, otherwise go to China where they “bend and weld”.
In conclusion: PJD’s bike is a masterpiece that makes history – evertyhing else is envious bs.
